Child Dedication
This is a time of public and personal commitment where parent(s), who have made Church on the Move their home church, make a covenant to raise their children with godly principles. Through this unique, but simple ceremony, you announce before God, your friends, and your family that you are willing to take on the solemn responsibility of raising your child towards a relationship with God.
Five Godly principles:
Principle 1: "Model Personal Faith"
“These commandments that I give to you today are to be upon your hearts.” Deuteronomy 6:6
It has to be in you before it can ever be in them.
Principle 2: "Commit to a Growing Marriage" (this doesn't apply to a single parents}
“Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.” 1Thessalonians 5:15
Your relationship (including the time and money you put into it) provides stability for kids.
Allows relationships to be more significant than issues.
Principle 3: "Experience Community"
“Tell each other the truth, because we all belong to each other in the same body.” Ephesians 4:25b
Model what you want for your kids (accountability, learning and relational honesty).
Principle 4: "Be Families of Service"
“Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger.” Ephesians 4:12
How are you using this One Life?
Do you recognize that you and your family are part of a bigger picture?
Strive to make your kids relationally rich, not just experientially rich.
Serving others promotes strength of relationship.
Principle 5: "Wise Decision Making"
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5
How are you modeling generosity (your time, and your resources)?
God ultimately wants your heart.
We hope that you will take these covenants and apply them to your marriage and family.
What to Expect:
During the dedication service, you will stand at the front of church to present your child to the congregation. One of our pastors will explain to the congregation what a Child Dedication is, and is not, and then will pray for the families. You’ll be encouraged to join your family and friends for the rest of the worship service.
Bringing Visitors:
We encourage you to bring family and friends for this special occasion. Please arrive early to find a seat and as the dedication is the first part of the service.
